(Mar 9, 2010) WONDER WHAT TOOK SO LONG?
Stevie Wonder was given one of France's highest honours, but it took him nearly 30 years to actually receive it. Wonder was named into France's prestigious National Order of Arts and Letters in 1981. He had scheduling conflicts back then that prevented him from his formal decoration. He was in Paris Saturday to perform on France's biggest musical awards show and to receive a special honour from that show.
REGGAE GETS A SHRINE
Jamaica is planning to open a museum to honour its musical heritage. Among the items that will be included are the one album Bob Marley produced before he became famous and a cassette with a 1977 jam session between reggae great Peter Tosh and the Rolling Stones.
A date for the museum's opening has not yet been set.
TALK YOURSELF OUT OF THIS
Authorities say D'Angelo was caught in New York City trying to pay $40 for sex with an undercover cop posing as a prostitute.
Police said yesterday the 36-year-old R&B singer was arrested early Saturday while behind the wheel of his Range Rover.
D'Angelo's real name is Michael Archer. He says in a statement that he pleaded not guilty and plans to fight the charge.
JONAS BROTHERS RAZZED
The Jonas Brothers have won an award they probably don't want. They've been given a Razzie for worst actor for their movie, Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience. The Razzies were given the day before the Oscars for the worst in film.
LADIES LINE UP FOR LILITH

VOLDEMORT'S REVENGE
Daniel Radcliffe was hospitalized with food poisoning last week. The Harry Potter star contracted a bug while in the U.S. and was forced to spend two days in a New York medical facility being treated for dehydration.
The 20-year-old star caught a flight home to the UK on Saturday, and reportedly filled in fellow passengers with the details about his embarrassing stomach upset.
A passenger on the same plane told The Sun newspaper: "He looked as white as a sheet. He said he felt like he was going to die and had spent most of his time on the toilet."
FINE IN BRIBERY CASE
A Hollywood associate of Joe Francis has been fined $5,000 but spared any prison time for his role in the bribery of jail guards to help the Girls Gone Wild founder while he was being held in Reno on tax evasion charges in 2007. Aaron Weinstein originally faced a felony bribery charge but agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanour of providing contraband in prison.
U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks told Weinstein yesterday he avoided prison partly because he co-operated with authorities in prosecuting Francis and two guards who admitted accepting thousands of dollars in cash and gifts. Ex-Washoe County deputy Ralph Hawkins was sentenced in December to three years probation and fined $4,000 for accepting cash and tickets to Raiders games from Weinstein. Another deputy is to be sentenced next week.
MARIE'S SON LAID TO REST
A funeral service was held Monday in Provo, Utah, for the 18-year-old son of Marie Osmond, the singer's publicist said.
The private service for Michael Bryan will be held in a chapel near the Provo temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, publicist Alan Nierob said.
Police in Los Angeles said Bryan died Feb. 26 from an apparent suicide after jumping from the eighth floor of the Metropolitan apartment building. An official cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology tests.
Police said Bryan left a note, but have provided no details about its contents.
THE ACADEMY OVERLOOKED ONE ANGEL
The absence of Farrah Fawcett from the traditional "in memoriam" segment of the Academy Awards broadcast caused some to scratch their heads. Fawcett, who died in June at the age of 62, was notably left out of the tribute. Film critic Roger Ebert was among those who questioned Fawcett's absence. He called it a "major fail." Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences spokeswoman Leslie Unger says they can't include everybody.
THE JUDGED BECOMES A JUDGE
Former Dancing With the Stars winner Brooke Burke will be Tom Bergeron's new partner when the series starts again later month. She'll replace Samantha Harris as cohost. Bergeron made the announcement yesterday on ABC's Good Morning America. As a contestant, Burke won during the season that ended in November 2008.
KATY TACKLES SMURFETTE ROLE
Katy Perry is thinking blue. Variety reports Perry is in talks to be the voice of Smurfette in an upcoming movie based on The Smurfs cartoon. Jonathan Winters will voice Papa Smurf. The film will be a combination of live action and animation.
RAZOR-SHARP COMEDY
While hosting Saturday Night Live, Zach Galifianakis covertly shaved his trademark beard.
The 40-year-old comedian slipped backstage while the show's musical guest, Vampire Weekend, performed. When Galifianakis emerged for the next sketch, his shaggy, reddish beard was gone, with a moustache in its place.
When Galifianakis returned to wave farewell at the end of the show, he'd changed yet again, donning a fake beard much like his original.
NBC posted a web-only video on NBC.com and Hulu.com of Galifianakis rushing backstage and quickly shaving.
Galifianakis, who co-starred in The Hangover, has often made his beard a focal point in his standup and has rarely shaved it. In a 2008 interview, he joked: "I would shave, but then I look like Jodie Foster."
CARPET CAPERS
Gerard Butler reportedly got irritated with Victoria Beckham at the Oscars. The Scottish actor -- who presented an award alongside Bradley Cooper at the Academy Awards ceremony at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood -- reportedly got so infuriated with the former Spice Girl causing a holdup on the red carpet he ignored waiting photographers and headed straight into the event. Victoria, also known as Posh Spice, made her arrival at the same time as the Ugly Truth actor and spent ages posing for photographers, pushing Butler's patience over the edge. According to the Mail Online website, he turned to a friend and said: "Oh, I'll be here for half an hour, let's go in." The Hollywood heartthrob had previously admitted he was a little disappointed his appearance at the awards show would be to present a statue and not win one.
"I'm going to record the show so I can play it backward and pretend I'm accepting the award instead of giving it to someone else."
PETER HAS IT COVERED
Peter Gabriel always wanted to do an album of covers, but he had to make it interesting. For his new album, Scratch My Back, he covers other musicians' works and they cover his. Gabriel says Paul Simon did a beautiful version of Biko with acoustic guitar and cello, and Lou Reed did Solsbury Hill with a fuzz guitar in what Gabriel calls typical Lou style. Gabriel also had a no drums or guitar rule on himself. He says the worst thing you can say to artists is that they can do whatever they want; rules make things creative.
WAYNE GETS AN UNPAID VACATION
Lil Wayne was sentenced yesterday to a year in jail for having a loaded gun on his tour bus in 2007, then was taken away in handcuffs to begin his term immediately.
The Grammy Award-winning rapper, born Dwayne Carter, was sentenced in Manhattan after pleading guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He admitted having the loaded .40-calibre semi-automatic gun on his tour bus.
The rapper will serve his sentence in city jails, not a state prison. He could be released in about eight months with good behaviour.
CONAN KEEPS HIS OPTIONS OPEN
Conan O'Brien may have bashed NBC during his final week hosting the Tonight show. But, he made certain not to burn the NBC bridge.
Philadelphia's film office says NBC has picked up a pilot from O'Brien's production company, Conaco.
The series is called Justice and filming starts later this month in Philadelphia.
It's about a Supreme Court justice going into private practice.
PATRICK'S FORMULA FOR LASTING LOVE
Patrick Dempsey admits it takes a lot of work to have a good marriage. The Grey's Anatomy actor has been married to wife Jill Fink for 10 years. He said: "Marriage is great and blissful, but it takes work and understanding. You have to make time to spend together and to work through your issues. The more we grown and learn, both as individuals and as a couple, the closer we get."
MATT HAS SECOND BANANA ISSUES
Matt Damon thinks he is only offered roles Brad Pitt turns down. The Green Zone actor -- who appeared alongside Pitt and George Clooney in the Ocean's series of movies -- insists his success comes from "piggybacking" his costars and doesn't believe directors ever want to choose him first.
"I think the roles go to Brad first. Which is fine. Ask anybody on the street which actors starred in the Ocean's movies, and they'll tell you it was George and Brad. I'm 'support' in Ocean's. As I was in Saving Private Ryan -- Tom Hanks carried that movie. You could accuse me of piggybacking on other people's brilliance more than anything."
