STONEY CREEK – A man was shot twice last night when two masked gunmen burst into a Watercrest Drive home and opened fire.
The victim, 42, was hit in a leg and a hand.
A 40-year-old woman who was also inside the home was not injured.
Hamilton police Sergeant Terri-Lynn Collings said this morning detectives do not believe this was a random attack.
Police said the intruders burst inside when the woman answered the front door at about 11 p.m. The two men forced their way past her when the door opened.
Both were armed with handguns and demanded money.
They opened fire when they didn’t get any cash, hitting the man once in a leg and once in a hand before running from the home.
The woman called 911 and within minutes Hamilton police and the OPP were scouring the neighbourhood looking for an escape vehicle.
Meanwhile, the man was taken to Hamilton General Hospital with gunshot wounds. He was to undergo surgery this morning to remove a bullet from his leg. His injuries are not considered life threatening.
Police swept the area with a dog team and the OPP were called in to search for a vehicle in case the gunmen had escaped the area using the QEW.
The home is located just east of Glover Road among a stretch of luxurious homes which back directly onto the beach on Lake Ontario.
The five-bedroom, 2,195 square-foot home where the shooting took place is listed for sale at $1.119 million. It was built just three years ago.
Police are looking for two suspects. The first is said to be a black male about six feet tall with a medium build who was masked and wearing dark clothing. The second is a white male about the same height, also masked and wearing dark clothes.
