The president of North York General Hospital says they are "shocked and devastated" after a doctor was charged with sexual assault.

An anesthesiologist has been charged with sexually assaulting three patients while they were under anesthetic.

Police say three woman reported having been sexually assaulted in three separate incidents between August 2007 and last month.

Hospital president Bonnie Adamson told a news conference this afternoon that the hospital is co-operating with police.

But she added the allegations involve one doctor and patients should feel safe at the hospital.
