BURLINGTON (Mar 10, 2010)

A lot of hot air blows in Burlington. But the city wants to do something about it.

The city will host its first climate-change summit called Take Action Burlington on May 6. The day-long event, to take place at the Royal Botanical Gardens, will see citizens, politicians and business leaders discuss what can be done on the local level to prevent global warming.

Mayor Cam Jackson said the city's strategic plan is committed to a greener Burlington. "Our strategic plan has set out the most significant commitment to sustainability and environmental protection in our city's history."

Jeffrey Simpson, a Toronto-based newspaper columnist and co-author of Hot Air: Canada's Climate Change Challenge, will be the keynote speaker at the event. Simpson will discuss how local communities can show leadership on the issue.
