Re: 'Hayseed patriotism was just embarrassing' (Column, March 1)

As a Grade 8 student, I can see how Andrew Dreschel might think Canadians went over the top celebrating the Olympics, but our athletes set a record for the all-time number of gold medals won -- ever.

While I understand his point of view, I think there is another point that is missing. Just about all Canadians liked that we showed our patriotism. Dreschel does mention at the end of the article that he is OK with "going gaga," but it is too late to change my opinion. Dreschel does not show any positive side to the argument. It's as if he is covered by a rain cloud!

He could have at least said we did "Own the Podium" in gold medals.

Overall, I think this article is very biased and he could act more Canadian by sharing the pride, not hating it.
